Bremer Manufacturing has been producing aluminum castings since 1937, serving customers from our 66,300-square-foot facility near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Our experience includes complex aluminum castings, machining, heat treating, finishing, and other secondary operations that help customers move parts from casting to completed components.
We understand that defense applications call for dependable parts and consistent production. Our aluminum sand casting capabilities support both smaller components and larger, more complex castings, giving defense manufacturers options for different part requirements and production volumes. We also maintain ITAR registration, supporting our work with defense-related products, services, and data.
Services for the Defense Industry
Our aluminum sand casting services include automatic green sand molding and air set molding. Our air set process, also known as no bake sand casting, uses chemically bonded sand to produce larger and more complicated aluminum castings. Parts produced through this process can weigh up to 120 pounds and measure up to 60 inches in length.
For smaller and medium-sized castings, our green sand molding equipment supports efficient production with low tooling costs and quick pattern changes. Our no bake sand casting capabilities also allow us to produce parts with internal passageways and undercuts using cores.
After casting, we can handle several secondary operations in-house. Our CNC machining capabilities allow us to machine castings to the required dimensions, while our heat treating service helps improve the mechanical and physical properties of aluminum castings. We typically perform T5, T51, T6, T61, and T7 heat treatments.
Our heat treating service is supported by two electric heat treat furnaces and two aging ovens. We also perform in-house hardness testing and regularly calibrate furnace controls as part of our process monitoring.
Quality Assurance
Quality starts with controlled casting processes and continues through inspection and secondary operations. Bremer Manufacturing maintains an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system covering sand cast aluminum castings and processes including molding, finishing, CNC machining, heat treating, burnishing, impregnation, and coating.
Our quality controls include in-house chemical analysis of aluminum alloys, sand monitoring, dimensional inspection, and digital X-ray inspection. X-ray inspection can help identify internal casting conditions that may not be visible from the outside.
Our experience with aluminum sand casting also gives our team a practical understanding of the production challenges that can affect casting quality. We work to maintain consistency from the initial mold and core work through machining, heat treating service, inspection, and final processing.
Bremer also maintains ITAR registration with the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. This registration is relevant to manufacturers working with defense-related products, services, and technical data.
